Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about transporting your vehicle with AutoCarMovers across South Africa.
How long does it take to transport my vehicle?
Transit times depend on the distance of your route. Johannesburg to Cape Town typically takes 2–4 business days, while shorter routes such as Durban to Johannesburg take 1–2 business days. Cape Town to Durban, our longest standard route at 1,753 km, usually takes 3–5 business days. We will provide an estimated delivery window when you confirm your booking.
Is my vehicle insured during transport?
Yes. All vehicles transported by AutoCarMovers are fully covered by comprehensive transit insurance from the moment of collection to the moment of delivery. In the extremely unlikely event of any damage, you are fully protected. We also complete a detailed vehicle condition report at pickup and delivery to ensure full accountability. The condition report is signed by both our driver and you (or your nominated representative) at collection, and again at delivery — so there is a clear, documented record of your vehicle's condition at every stage.
What exactly happens when your driver arrives to collect my vehicle?
When our driver arrives at your collection address, they will conduct a full Vehicle Condition Report (VCR) before loading. This involves: (1) Walking around the vehicle together with you and documenting any pre-existing scratches, dents, chips, or marks on a body diagram. (2) Recording the odometer reading, fuel level, and whether the vehicle is running. (3) Taking timestamped photographs of all four sides, the roof, and any noted damage. (4) Both you and our driver signing the completed report. You receive a copy of the signed VCR on the spot. The same report is completed again at delivery — the receiving party signs it and any condition at delivery is compared directly against the collection record. This process protects both you and us.
How will I receive updates while my vehicle is in transit?
Once your vehicle is collected, our team will send you a confirmation that it is loaded and in transit. You can then contact us at any point during business hours (Mon–Fri, 08:00–17:00) by phone or WhatsApp to request a real-time GPS location update. We will also contact you proactively when your vehicle is approximately 2–4 hours from the delivery address, so you can make arrangements to receive it. You will not be left wondering where your car is.
Can I put personal belongings in my car during transport?
We strongly recommend removing all personal belongings from your vehicle before handover. Items left in the vehicle are not covered by our transit insurance policy. Our trucks are also subject to weight restrictions that may be affected by heavy items left in the vehicle.
How do I prepare my car for transport?
Before we collect your vehicle: ensure the fuel tank is no more than a quarter full, remove all personal items and loose accessories, disable any aftermarket alarms or immobilisers (or provide the code), document any pre-existing scratches, dents, or damage with clear photographs, and ensure the vehicle is clean enough for an accurate condition assessment.
Do you offer real-time GPS tracking?
Yes. Every transport truck in our fleet is equipped with GPS tracking. Once your vehicle is in transit, you can contact our team during business hours (Mon–Fri, 08:00–17:00) to request a real-time location update at any point during the journey.
What types of vehicles do you transport?
We transport the full spectrum of vehicles including sedans, hatchbacks, SUVs, bakkies and pickup trucks, minibuses and kombis, motorcycles and scooters, luxury and performance cars, classic and vintage vehicles, and non-running or damaged vehicles. Contact us if you have a specialist or oversized vehicle and we will advise accordingly.
Do you offer door-to-door service?
Yes — door-to-door is our standard and recommended service. Our driver will collect your vehicle from your specified address in the pickup city and deliver it directly to your specified address at the destination. There are no depot stops or third-party transfers involved.
How far in advance should I book?
We recommend booking at least 5–7 business days in advance to secure your preferred pickup date, especially during peak periods such as December, January, and Easter. For urgent or last-minute transport requests, please contact us directly as we may be able to accommodate shorter notice depending on route availability.
How will I receive my quote?
Once you submit our online quote request form, our sales team will review your vehicle and route details and contact you with a personalised, itemised quote. Quotes are typically provided within a few business hours. There is no obligation to proceed — our quotes are completely free.
Do you show prices online?
We do not display pricing on our website as every quote is personalised based on your specific vehicle type, the exact pickup and delivery addresses, your service preferences, and any special requirements. This ensures you always receive the most accurate and competitive price for your specific transport requirements.
What routes do you service?
We service all major South African vehicle transport routes including Johannesburg ↔ Cape Town (1,401 km), Durban ↔ Johannesburg (588 km), Cape Town ↔ Durban (1,753 km), and routes to and from Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth), Pretoria, Bloemfontein, East London, and other cities nationwide. Contact us for routes not listed.
What happens if my vehicle is damaged during transport?
All vehicles are covered by comprehensive transit insurance throughout the transport process. In the event of any damage, a claim can be submitted with full support from our team. This is why we complete thorough vehicle condition reports at both collection and delivery — to clearly document the state of your vehicle at each stage.
